  4. Internal Focus…..cont. • Don’t compare your inside with other’s outsides. • May not be what it seems. • Makes no difference-anyhow.

  5. Mantras by Which to Live • If you tell the truth you never have to remember what you said. • Your reputation is yours . • Hard to get it back. • Do the right thing. • If it blows up, you did the right thing. • If you do the wrong thing and it blows up, you have nothing!

  6. Mantras by Which to Live…cont. • Listen from the vantage of the listener. • Be sensitive to how they feel. • Never say, "You're wrong!” • Get to the same side of the table. • Don’t make excuses. • This is going to sound dumb, but…..

  7. Preparation • Most important presentation you have made to this point. • What it shows. • Willing to do your homework. • You are mature. • You have taken the time to reflect on your future. • Read. • Ask questions. • Elevator speech.

  8. Presentation • Dress for success. • Suits for men • Suits or dresses for women • Better to be over dressed. • Not a fashion statement. • Not a compromise of your self-expression. • Jewelry, cologne, ect.

  9. The Interview • Firm handshake. • Good eye contact. • Answer the questions. • Speak to your strengths. • Neutralize your weaknesses. • Be careful of trick questions. • No throw away lines. • No BS!

The Interview….cont. • Questions • What kind of people are you looking for? • What kind of qualifications are you looking for? • Can you characterize the corporate culture? • What are keys to success as a new employee? • What are the characteristics of people who have had problems fitting in?

  11. Follow-up • Thank you note-email. • Don’t be afraid to call if you have not heard.
