Introduction • First unit of the school year • Already learned: • Capitalizing first word in sentence • Statements are telling sentences • Purpose of this lesson: • To become familiar with questions and exclamations in print and apply correct punctuation

Demonstrate command of the conventions of standard English capitalization, punctuation, and spelling when writing • b. Use end punctuation for sentences.
Objectives • With assistance: • identify characteristics of questions and exclamations • identify the type of sentence and write the corresponding punctuation • Independently: • correct the punctuation of questions and exclamations
Essential Question • Why is it necessary to use different types of sentences while speaking and writing?
