  3. Background: • Established as a separate state agency in May of 1982 • State Board of Education to appoint Chancellor for • Assisting the State Board • Administering the office of Chancellor

  4. Background • Alabama Community College System (ACCS) • Governed by State Board of Education • 21 comprehensive community colleges • 4 Technical colleges • Athens State University • 300,000 served annually • 125,000 enrolled in credit hours

  6. Students • 300,000 served annually • 125,000 enrolled in credit courses • Approx. 1,350 attend a community college in Alabama from the state of Georgia • 86,160 are from Alabama
