Welcome back, future leaders! • For today’s warm-up please do the following: • Grab your student log and notebook from the crates. • Write in today’s date and objective on your student log. • Draw an X through today’s homework box. • Open your notebook and respond to the following prompts: • As we have discussed before, most people in Europe during the Middle Ages were Catholic Christians. Why do you think there are so many forms of Christianity now? Write one full paragraph.

  7. Spread of New Ideas: ________________________________________________________ Paper: • Papermaking spread from China to the Middle East to Europe (CULTURAL DIFFUSION!) • Cheaper and easier to produce, paper quickly replaced the animal skins on which Europeans had written before

Spread of New Ideas: ________________________________________________________ Movable Type: • In the mid-1400s, a German named Johan Gutenberg developed a printing press that used movable type • Movable type is a system of reusable metal letters that can be fit into a frame to spell whatever you want! Here’s how it worked: A worker fitted letters into a frame, spread ink on the letters, and then pressed a sheet of paper against the letters. An entire page was printed at once. The worker could then rearrange the letters in the frame to create a new page!

Spread of New Ideas: ________________________________________________________ Availability of Books: • In 1456, Gutenberg printed the Bible in Latin - it was later translated and printed in other languages • As the Bible became increasingly available, more people learned to read and began to desire education again

I’ll show you an example in just a second… This is part of your classwork, and classwork earns PRIDE cards, soooo… USE YOUR TIME WISELY!

  13. Now it’s your turn! ________________________________________________________ Time to write your own “Ninety-Five Theses!” Mr. Golden’s Five Theses (on the AFSIVA uniform policy) 1. It is inappropriate for students alone to be expected to comply with a uniform policy. If there is to be a policy regarding attire in the building, it should apply equally to all – regardless of age or position. And so on, and so on, and so on… USE YOUR TIME WISELY!
