  1. Mark 1:1-3 (NIV) • The beginning of the good news about Jesus the Messiah, the Son of God, 2 as it is written in Isaiah the prophet:

  2. “I will send my messenger ahead of you, who will prepare Your way”—3 “a voice of one calling in the wilderness, • ‘Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for Him.’”

  3. 4 And so John the Baptist appeared in the wilderness, preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.

  4. 5 The whole Judean countryside and all the people of Jerusalem went out to him. Confessing their sins, they were baptized by him in the Jordan River.

  5. 6 John wore clothing made of camel’s hair, with a leather belt around his waist, and he ate locusts and wild honey.

  6. 7 And this was his message: “After me comes the one more powerful than I, the straps of whose sandals I am not worthy to stoop down and untie.

  7. 8 I baptize you with water, but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.” • 9 At that time Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan.

  8. 10 Just as Jesus was coming up out of the water, he saw heaven being torn open and the Spirit descending on him like a dove.

  9. 11 And a voice came from heaven: “You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.”

  11. 4 And so John the Baptist appeared in the wilderness, preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.

  12. 2 Corinthians 5:17 • Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!

  13. You need to be baptized because: • Jesus demonstrated it

  14. You need to be baptized because: • Jesus demonstrated it • Jesus commanded it

  15. Matthew 28:19 (NIV) • Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,

  16. 1 John 2:3 • We know that we have come to know him if we keep his commands.

  17. You need to be baptized because: • Jesus demonstrated it • Jesus commanded it • Baptism is your public statement that you belong to Jesus Christ

  18. Acts 8:32-38 • 32 This is the passage of Scripture the eunuch was reading: • “He was led like a sheep to the slaughter, and as a lamb before its shearer is silent, so he did not open his mouth.

  19. 34 The eunuch asked Philip, “Tell me, please, who is the prophet talking about, himself or someone else?”

  20. 35 Then Philip began with that very passage of Scripture and told him the good news about Jesus.

  21. 36 As they traveled along the road, they came to some water and the eunuch said, “Look, here is water. What can stand in the way of my being baptized?”

  22. [37 And Philip said, “If you believe with all your heart you may.” And he replied, “I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.”]

  23. 38 And he gave orders to stop the chariot. Then both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water and Philip baptized him.

  24. You need to be baptized because: • Jesus demonstrated it • Jesus commanded it • Baptism is your public statement that you belong to Jesus Christ • Baptism is a symbol of incorporation

  25. 1 Corinthians 12:13 (NIV) • For we were all baptized by one Spirit so as to form one body—whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free—and we were all given the one Spirit to drink.

  26. 10 Just as Jesus was coming up out of the water, he saw heaven being torn open and the Spirit descending on him like a dove. 11 And a voice came from heaven: “You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.”
