IMPORTANT INFORMATION You are responsible for ALL information given tonight. Please make sure that you write down important information, dates, assignment, etc. If you have questions or concerns, you need to ask them tonight. Remember: If you have a question, others probably have a similar question. There will be no excuse for not knowing assignments, dates, requirements, etc that are given tonight.

Introductions • Folder: • Complete the information sheet in the folder. • Turn all work into the folder. • Graded work will be handed out through the folder. • Must sign in each week in the folder to get credit for attendance. (You can only miss one class.) • Grades will be recorded in the folder so that you can keep a running tally of your grade. • You are responsible for turning in folders at the end of each class.
Introductions: • Two truths and a lie: • To get to know each person better • A game to play when some students already know each other and others don’t • A way to get to know each other better • Having students write them down before beginning is often better • Remind students to mix them up (not always truth, truth, lie.)
Introductions: • We will be working in groups this session • The group will stay together for the entire session. • Participation in the group will be part of the grade. • Students will rate each others participation. All ratings will be confidential. • Teacher will rate participation based on observations during classes. • Groups will need to consist of: • 4 groups – 3 people each • All interested in teaching the same grade level • At least one person that is or has worked in the school system at least one year • It would be helpful if at least one person has a laptop
Groups • Who wants to teach elementary, middle, high? • Who is presently or has worked in the school system? • Use the information to form groups. • Take 5 - 10 minutes to get to know your groups members better: • Experience • Educational Interests • Educational Strengths and Weaknesses If the group that you chose is not a good fit, tonight is the time to switch. As we go through the syllabus and expectations you will better be able to make this decision.
Group Folder • Groups will turn in group assignments to the group folder. • At the end of the night, make sure that all names are on your folders. • Individuals will receive a grade for group assignments based on • 70% product • 30% ratings of teacher and groups members
Group Rubric • Your first assignment is to create a project participation rubric that may be used to rate your group members. You may use a rubric maker from the web or create a paper and pencil rubric. • This should be on how well each member contribute to the assignment and will need to fit both “in class” group work and projects. You may decide to do two (one for each) or one that fits both types of activities. • This rubric will need to be emailed to me by Saturday or if you choose the paper/pencil it may be turned in tonight. We will vote on the one that will be used next week.

Syllabus • Cell Phones: Turn cell phones off during class. • Laptops: When we do group assignments in class it will be helpful for someone in your group to have your laptop here. Note however, laptops should be used for class activities and note taking. Surfing the web, working on projects for other classes, etc during class time will not be accepted and may be reflected in your class participation grade.

Syllabus • Mini Portfolio • Resources (20 Points) • On going assignment • This should include at least 50 resources • Those gathered in classes past and present • Those collected from others • Those you have added • Websites must have a summary of what the site is about included. • Should be organized in an easy to use format • You will need to bring your favorite resources to share with the class.
Syllabus • Due Date • One article is due each week for the next 5 weeks • Lesson Plans • The topic is due next week • The final product is due week 6 • Presentation of lesson plans will be made Week 8 • Resources • Due the last class. • You will need to share a resource with the class. • If you present websites you will need to include a summary of what the site includes (content areas, for teachers, for students, etc) and will need to include at least 5 sites.

Syllabus • Midterm and Final (100 points each) • Take Home • Must be your own work (not group project). • Due one week after given out • Please remember that group assignments can be handed in together. Individual Assignments should be handed in individually and in own hand writing.
Miscellaneous House Keeping • Breaks • Discussing Grades • Assignments are considered late if I do not receive them by 8:00 Thursday after the original due date. For example if your lesson plan is due on Wed 10th, it is considered late Thursday 11th at 8:01. Expect points to be taken off if an assignment is received late. NO WORK WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER THE LAST CLASS. • Work turned in via email will not be printed out and comments will be made on a separate sheet of paper. • Questions
Group Assignment • With your group describe a student that you will use for various activities. This student should have a mild disability. You should describe as completely as possible. Include items such as: • IQ • Behavior • Area of disability • Interaction with peers • Make up comments from teachers • Strategies that work and don’t • Any other information that will be useful as we move forward
