What is Cloud Computing? • Cloud computing can be viewed as three separate offerings.: SaaS, IaaS & PaaS. • SaaS – Software as a Service • IaaS – Infrastructure as a Service • PaaS – Platform as a Service • Just because it’s on the internet does not mean it’s cloud computing. ie: “CloudWashing”

Metered use, hosted within the providers data centers. • Examples: • Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online • Microsoft Office 365 (BPOS) • Microsoft Online Services • Salesforce.com CRM • Google Apps

  7. IaaS Overview & Examples • IaaS is infrastructure consumed and made use of in a multi-tenant format. Metered use, with finite set resources of hosted virtual images. • Examples: • Amazon Web Services • Microsoft Azure VM Role (Runs on Azure PaaS) • OpenStack.org

  8. PaaS Overview & Examples • PaaS is a true platform, with sets of services for relational data / object storage, software runtime and channel / end point connections. Can be multi-tenant or isolated-tenant modes. • Examples: • Microsoft Azure Platform • Force.com vmForce Platform • Google AppEngine • OpenStack.org

  9. Dynamics AX Today and Cloud Computing • What can be done today? • Microsoft Dynamics AX on-premise, with services and other cloud based LOB / Composite apps interacting. (Hybrid) • Microsoft Dynamics AX Hosted via IaaS offering through Partner Hosting, Amazon AWS or Azure VM Role. • This is true for Dynamics AX 2009 & 2012
