  7. The end of 14 century was fatal for Urgench : five times Timur conquered and destroyed it taking away scientists , doctors ,builders and other masters . In 1388 he gave the city to his troops for destruction and ordered , as Timur’s historiographer wrote , “to take the citizens to Samarkand and totally destroy the city of Urgench and sow it with barley”

  9. In 2001 Turkmen carpet masters have weaved a giant carpet , with the area of 301sq.m and weight of 1,200kg. It is recorded in the Guinness Book of Records as the largest handmade carpet in the world.
