  1. Statistical Programme - Theme 14IT normalisation and collaborative infrastructure for the ESS Agenda item 2.1.2

  2. Main objectives • Standardisation of data formats: especially GESMES • Monitored data transmission through “single entry point” within the data life cycle strategy of Eurostat • Coordinate involvement of Eurostat in IDAbc programme and (with Theme 15) SDMX

  3. Recent developments (2003-2004) • CIRCA development transferred to DG Informatics • Steady increase in transmission of data through STADIUM • Improvements to STADIUM, EDIFLOW • New GESMES implementations and steady increase in GESMES usage

  4. Trend in transmission of files through STADIUM

  5. Planned developments (2004 – 2005) • EDAMIS: the future “single entry point”, with enhanced facilities for monitoring data transmission and direct upload of data files through web portal • Renewed effort on GESMES, with focus on “appropriate data flows” • More involvement in SDMX (within the IDAbc framework)

  6. Analysis of datasets in relationto requirement for Gesmes use (1) • 8 criteria used to identify datasets • Based on criteria agreed in STNE WG (May 2004) • Initial analysis at level of Theme using information from EDIFLOW and from the Statistical Requirements Compendium • High-scoring Themes -> GESMES use to be required

  7. Analysis of datasets in relationto requirement for Gesmes use (2) Result (see Annex 2): Total number of Themes: 33 of which GESMES to be required: 10 (representing 46 domains) Other formats: 21 (representing 90 domains)
