Introducing yourself at large meeting-example.
E N D
Introducing yourself at large meeting-example Good afternoon, I’m Ye Sun. After obtaining my IMBA degree from Renmin University this July, I hope to join a leading global accounting firm. Because many of you work for major international companies or operate your own businesses, I look forward to chatting with you about how you’ve built your careers and hearing your suggestions on how I might launch mine.
Introducing yourself at large meeting-tips Often delivered while standing, your introduction or your “elevator speech”* includes about 3 sentences that provide the following: • Name and where you go to school or work • Your focus or aspiration (hope) • How what you’re doing or hope to do is connected to attending this meeting * Brief, as if during an elevator ride
Introducing yourself-by phone-example Mr. Roberts, this is JianhuaShen. I hope that this is still a convenient time for us to chat. (Assuming he says that it is, you’d continue, saying,) I’m very interested in parlaying* my MBA and private equity internship experience in an analyst position at Greenway Private Equity. *“Parlay” means use one’s talents to achieve success.
Introducing yourself by phone-tips • Say who you are • If relevant, say who referred you • Ask if it’s a convenient time to speak (is considerate and shows you know how business works) • Briefly say what you want to speak about
Introducing yourself-in writing-example Dear Mr. Jones: Dr. Martin Glass, your colleague and my former professor, suggested that you and I may want to meet. He thinks that my background might be of interest to IBM Consulting. During my two years at Hewlett Packard (HP), I focused on analyzing client needs and developing and implementing strategies to fulfill them. The team I led cultivated strong relationships with client executives and delivered significant revenue growth.
Introducing yourself in writing- example-continued In addition to a Bachelor of Science in Software Engineering from Fudan University, in July, I will receive my international MBA (IMBA) from Renmin University. I would welcome the opportunity to explore with you how I might add value to IBM Consulting. To that end, I look forward to hearing from and, potentially, meeting you. Best regards, Ping Peng
Introducing yourself in writing-tips • One of the hardest things to do—even for native English speakers • 1st paragraph—if applicable, catch reader’s eye by saying who referred you AND state briefly why you’re writing • 2nd and/or 3rd paragraph—explain more about your education and/or work experience • Last paragraph—say you “would welcome the opportunity to [explore]” and “look forward to [hearing from and/or meeting]”
