ClimateProtectionneedshelp International agreements (Kyoto Protocol and follow-up agreements) In order to keep global warming below 2°C, a stabilization of atmospheric greenhouse gas concentration under 450 ppm CO2-equivalent would be required EU 20-20-20 targets (Climate and Energy package) Austria minus 16% of GHG-emissions until 2020 In October 2011 the Austrian National Climate Protection law was adopted

PROCESS OF THE CLIMATE PROTECTION PLAN was started with: • Research partners Wegener Center TU GrazJoanneum Research • Representatives from the Styrian federal state parliament • Representatives from the socialpartners(chamber of trade, commerce and industry, chamber of labour..) and Association of Austrian Cities, Towns and Local Authorities • a small number of internal experts
In a further step the project team has been expanded Consortium of 20 experts (Wegener Center, TU Graz, Joanneum Research) 13 interest groups (chamber of trade, commerce and industry, chamber of labour, representatives from Styrian cities and towns ...) 34 departments from the Land of Styria with about 40 colleagues 46 non-profit and non-governmental organizations from the fields of environmental, nature, education ….
