A Living future for All Saints Following extensive community consultation, the vision is for the Beonna to: • Be a community hub • Provide rural services for the village, combined with heritage and learning activities • Provide volunteering and training opportunities which engage a wide range of local people • Support enterprise • Provide a venue for hire • Deliver services and activities in partnership with other organisations
What is a Community Hub? Its likely to include: • A community café • Access to the internet • Library and community services access point • Tourist information point • Befriending and support sessions • ‘Swapping activities’ such as clothes exchange and ‘crop swaps’ • Outlets for local art and craft makers • Community venue hire
Volunteering Key to success for the Beonna will be a wide range of volunteering opportunities. Through volunteering local people can: • Have fun • Use existing skills and experience while gaining new ones • Gain confidence • Access the community training programme • Meet new people and feel part of the community • Make a contribution to the community • Learn about and enjoy the local heritage
Heritage Learning Activities Opportunities to find out about Benington and the wider area through: • An exhibition of the history of the church and village, incorporating local people’s memories • A new improved website and a mobile ‘app’ • A church leaflet and village guide book • Interpretation of the churchyard memorials and wildlife • Children’s activity trail • Tourist trails • A local and family history centre the church • Schools workshops • Workshops in heritage skills • Offering apprenticeships, internships, work experience and work placements for young people
Community Training Programme The programme could include: • Business and financial management • Customer service • Tour guiding • First aid • Developing new business opportunities • IT skills • Supporting library users in book search and reservations • Supporting visitors and tourists in attractions search • Community support for job search, benefit applications, information and advice • Citizens Advice Bureau training
Community Activities Programme Engaging people through: • Seniors lunch club and afternoon activities programme. Supported by volunteer drivers • Youth café and linked youth forum. A space for young people to socialise and develop their skills and talents • Benington ‘Book Worms’. A programme of activities to include a book group, books for babies, literacy support, creative writing, talks by local authors • Programme of short courses and workshops. Taster activities in art and craft, Christmas decoration, heritage skills, wildlife gardening, local history, photography
Beonna Wildlife Group A new local group who will: • Create a community nature garden • Install bird and bat boxes • Cary out surveys of species • Carry out conservation activities • Lead bat walks with bat detectors • Organise talks on wildlife • Organise minibeast hunts for children • Share ideas for wildlife friendly gardening
Bell Ringing Group A new local group that encourages new entrants to try their hand at bell ringing by offering: • Taster sessions • Demonstration events • Talks on the history and heritage of bell ringing • Group visits to other centres
Events Programme Working with community groups and societies to create an events programme which appeals to the whole community, including: • Bat walks • Star gazing • Guided nature walks • Easter egg hunt • Christmas decorations market • Holiday events for children • Exhibitions
Venue Hire The Beonna will be available to hire for larger scale events such as concerts, conferences and seminars.
