  3. Prosperity Gospel 1. Introduction.(w Video excerpts) 2. Four Biblical principles to Wealth/Riches 3. Five examples of Scripture twisting and the Prosperity Gospel? 4. Video “Was Jesus rich? Kong Hee CHC” 5. Summary Video “Dr John MacArthur exposes prosperity gospel heretics.” 6. Resources

  4. “I believe that it is anti-Christian and unholy for any Christian to live with the object of accumulating wealth. You will say, “Are we not to strive all we can to get all the money we can?” You may do so. I cannot doubt but what, in so doing, you may do service to the cause of God. But what I said was that to live with the object of accumulating wealth is anti-Christian.” C H Spurgeon 1834-1892

  5. A New Gospel has emerged since Spurgeon spoke those words. Prosperity Gospel…”name it and claim it” “Health and wealth”…”Word of faith”..”Positive confession theology”….

  6. Wiki definition of prosperity gospel “Prosperity theology teaches that Christians are entitled to well-being and, because physical and spiritual realities are seen as one inseparable reality, this is interpreted as physical health and economic prosperity.[1] Teachers of the doctrine focus on personal empowerment,[2] promoting a positive view of the spirit and body..”

  7. Quotes from Prosperity Ministers • Joyce Meyer, “If you stay in your faith, you are going to get paid. I am now living in my reward.” • Joel Osteen, “There is a miracle in your mouth. If you want to change your world, start by changing your words. If you’ll learn how to speak the right words and keep the right attitude, God will turn that situation around.”

  8. Quotes from Prosperity Ministers • Creflo Dollar, “When we pray, believing that we have already received what we are praying, God has no choice but to make our prayers come to pass.” • Joseph Prince,” Accepting Jesus as your Lord and Saviour will not only save you from sin and hell, but also give to you health, joy, peace, love, hope, unconditional acceptance, favour, the power to get wealth, all good things you can think of and more.”

  10. 1. Biblical principles to Wealth/Riches – We are to learn to be contented. Hebrews 13:5 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. James 5:1-2 Go to now, ye rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you. Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are moth eaten.

  11. 1. Biblical principles to Wealth/Riches – We are to learn to be contented. Philippians 4:11-13 Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content. I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

  12. 1. Biblical principles to Wealth/Riches – We are to learn to be contented. 1 Timothy 6:6-10 But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. And having food and raiment let us be therewith content. But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition. For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

  13. 2. Biblical principles to Wealth/Riches – We are not to store up Treasures on earth Luke 12:22-32 And he said unto his disciples, Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat; neither for the body, what ye shall put on. The life is more than meat, and the body is more than raiment. Consider the ravens: for they neither sow nor reap; which neither have storehouse nor barn; and God feedeth them: how much more are ye better than the fowls? And which of you with taking thought can add to his stature one cubit? If ye then be not able to do that thing which is least, why take ye thought for the rest? Consider the lilies how they grow: they toil not, they spin not; and yet I say unto you, that Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. If then God so clothe the grass, which is to day in the field, and to morrow is cast into the oven; how much more will he clothe you, O ye of little faith? And seek not ye what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink, neither be ye of doubtful mind. For all these things do the nations of the world seek after: and your Father knoweth that ye have need of these things. But rather seek ye the kingdom of God; and all these things shall be added unto you.

  14. 2. Biblical principles to Wealth/Riches – We are not to store up Treasures on earth Matthew 6:19-21 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. Luke 16:13 -14 No servant can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon. And the Pharisees also, who were covetous, heard all these things: and they derided him.

  15. 3. Biblical principles to Wealth/Riches – CovetousnessWe are not to love money or be greedy Luke 12:15 And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth 1 Timothy 3:3 Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but patient, not a brawler, not covetous;

  16. 3. Biblical principles to Wealth/Riches – CovetousnessWe are not to love money or be greedy 1 Timothy 6:10 For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. Ephesians 5:5 For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.

  17. 4. Biblical principles to Wealth/Riches –We are to set our hearts on eternity The Apostle John proclaims that the prosperity Gospel is not from God. 1 John 2:15-17 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.

  18. 4. Biblical principles to Wealth/Riches –We are to set our hearts on eternity Matthew 6:33-34 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.

  19. What Does the Bible Say About the Prosperity gospel? Prosperity Gospel -Word of Faith (WOF) -uses God. Teaches that the Holy Spirit is a power to be use for what the believer wills. -”Positive Confession”/”force of faith”/”name it and claim it” -Words can manipulate and create what they actually believe scriptures promises. Paul warns us in 1 Timothy 6:5,9-11. Jesus did not pursue it(Matthew 8:20)

  20. John Piper John Piper condemns Prosperity gospel

  21. 1. Scripture “Twisting”– Psalm37:4 Psalms 37:4 Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. There are people who read this verse and think that following God and obeying God is a way to get what they want. They say that if we obey God, He has promised to give us the desires of our heart.

  22. 1. Scripture “Twisting”– Psalm37:4 Psalms 37:4 Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. This does not mean that God will give us every fleshly Desire that we want on this Earth. What this Scripture means is that if we're CONFORMING to GOD'S WILL (Delighting in Him), HE will place in our Heart DESIRES that REFLECT HIS WILL. What's Gods Will? There are for sure 6 Things the Bible says is "God's Will" for us, and that is to be: Saved, Sanctified, Spirit-Filled (Gal 5:22-23), Submissive, Share in Sufferings of Christ, Say Thanks. God Promises Believers that He will Supply our NEEDS not all our WANTS. Phil 4:19 Paul reminds the Philippians, "God will supply all your NEEDS according to His riches in Glory.."

  23. 2. Scripture “Twisting”– Mal 3:10 Malachi 3:10 Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it. Context : Malachi is an oracle(Mal 1:1) Warning to tell the Degenerate Jews to turn back to God. Malachi 3:1-6 is a prophecy concerning John the Baptist 2 Corinthians 9:7 Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.

  24. 3. Scripture “Twisting”– 2 Cor 9:6 2 Corinthians 9:6 But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully. Context: Group of Christians in great need . Preparing love offering (2 Cor 9:5-12) Don’t be afraid to give. You help the poor group and God will supply your needs.

  25. 4. Scripture “Twisting”– 3 John 1:2What does it mean that we may prosper in all things and be healthy? 3 John 1:1 The elder unto the wellbeloved Gaius, whom I love in the truth. 3 John 1:2 Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth. One of the favorites of Prosperity Preachers. Oral Roberts claimed that God miraculously led him to 3 John which he understood as a revelation of the prosperity Gospel. Kenneth Copeland misinterprets this as a universal promise. “God wants us to prosper in every area Our prosperity in areas of our life is only proportionate to our prosperity in our soul” Sermon notes Kong Hee/CHC/1/1/2011 Correct Interpretation: Contextually it is a greeting Secondly grammatically to mean “grant a prosperous expedition and expeditious journey”. ( used 4 times in the bible)

  26. 5. Scripture “Twisting”– John 10;10What does it mean that Jesus came to give us life and life more abundantly? John 10:10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. “This means that if you are sick, God’s heart is and will always be to heal and restore health and life to you. He so desires for you to walk in health and life that He gave you His beloved Son, Jesus, so that you might have life and have it more abundantly (John 10:10). God is for you to walk in abundant health and life. He does not want your body and life sapped, incapacitated or debilitated by pain, sickness and disease, and He will never withhold healing from you.” Joseph Prince

  27. 5. Scripture “Twisting”– John 10;10What does it mean that Jesus came to give us life and life more abundantly? John 10:10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. And then He adds in verse 9 that you'll also find...what?...a pasture. Did you know the Shepherd not only takes care of us but He feeds us? You say, "What's our food?" Right here, isn't it? The Word of God, that's our food. And, you know, if there are some feeble sheep, that's because they're not eating. Tragically the Shepherd has to lead very slowly because we have a lot of sheep who are dragging along. If you want to be a healthy sheep, feed the Word to your soul and you can go in and out and find pasture, God's sustaining Word, feast on it. Be a healthy sheep. Verse 10, we'll close. "The thief cometh not...and here's the contrast, drawn as a summary...the thief cometh not but to steal and to kill and to destroy." Contrast: "I am come that they might have life," that's the opposite of killing is giving life. "And they might have it more abundantly." False shepherds, false doors come to damn, slaughter, destroy, steal the sheep. Jesus says, "I'm the true Shepherd and I came to gather you up and give you life, abundant and rich in new pasture, in a new sheepfold with new resource and purpose.“ John Macarthur sermons

  28. Bible and scripture twisters 2 Timothy 4:-2-5 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables. But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry.

  29. Bible and scripture twisters 1 Timothy 6:3-11 If any man teach otherwise, and consent not to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness; He is proud, knowing nothing, but doting about questions and strifes of words, whereof cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings, Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself. But godliness with contentment is great gain. But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness.

  30. Was Jesus Rich? AQ: This videos and others are not available on You Tube as CHC has requested them to be taken down. However they are available on c3churchwatch.com website. “I’ll show you nine bible reasons tonight why Jesus wasn’t poor. • Number one, as a baby, He was showered with great treasures. • Number two: He had many wealthy partners supporting Him. • Number three: He was able to pay for all the entire ministry team. • Number four: He generously fed the hungry. • Number five: He HAD a treasurer. • Number six: He NEVER considered himself poor. • Number seven: He cared for the poor and regularly gave to them. • Number eight: He had his own HOUSE! • Number nine. He wore good CLOTHES!” – Kong Hee, 9 reason y Jesus is rich,

  31. Was Jesus Rich?(2) • [Continued] “So you ask me tonight, “Pastor Kong, why is this important to me”. I’m glad you ask. This is important! You knowwhy? Because a servant can never be greater then his master. • Friends, because we become like whom we worship, if we worship a poor Saviour, we will always see poor. But if you worship a savior who we know to be rich and prosperous and more then enough, we will be changed from glory to glory [applause starts], into the image of the one that we worship. Oh come on! Give God a big hand!” – Kong Hee, 9 reason y Jesus is rich, (02:56-03:35),

  32. Was Jesus Rich?(3) • [Continued] “And because we live in a spiritual kingdom, where prosperity and wealth – is a rightful inheritance. That’s why I say it before and I say it again: “You may be poor tonight, you may be poor right now but you follow Jesus Christ. You follow the word of God. You will never be poor all your life. Prosperity’s our rightful inheritance – and because we read a bible that teaches us how to work hard; how not to look for shortcuts in life! How to move in the power of God and have the Wisdom of God to succeed in life! • So when the bible says we can bring all the tithes and ALL the offerings into the STOREHOUSE, we know our God means it when He says, “I will open up the windows and pour a blessing so great, that it will FILL you to overflowing”. • WE KNOW THAT WE KNOW THAT WE KNOW He means it! You see that when we follow what the bible says, that we give our tithes and offerings, that God will BLESS us, so that we can be a BLESSING to the WHOLE WORLD!!!” – Kong Hee, 9 reason y Jesus is rich, (03:45-04:58),

  33. Kong Hee put words in our Lord’s Mouth!

  34. Warnings! What about the Cross over project ..China Wine? “A gospel which is after men will be welcomed by men; but the true gospel of the grace of God needs a divine operation upon the heart and mind to make a man willing to receive into his utmost soul such a distasteful truth. My dear Brethren, do not try to make it tasteful to carnal minds. Hide not the offense of the cross, lest you make it of none effect.” – C.H. Spurgeon
