  1. Wind By: Nicholas McClay

  2. Wind is the flow of gases on a large scale. • Wind mills were first developed in China and Persia

  3. Wind exists because the sun unevenly heats the surface of the Earth. • As hot air rises, cooler air moves in to fill the void

  4. Most wind energy comes from turbines that can be as tall as a 20 story building and have three 200 ft. long blades. • Wind spins the blades, which turn a shaft connected to a generator that produces electricity.

  5. Wind is a clean source of renewable energy that produces no air or water pollution. • Wind farms have tens and sometimes hundreds of turbines lined up together.

  6. The biggest wind turbines generate enough electricity to supply about 600 U.S. homes. • Smaller turbines built in a backyard can produce enough electricity for a single home or small business.

  7. More and more people are using wind turbines to get electricity from the breeze. • Wind only provides a small fraction of the world's energy.

  8. Wind power is currently the fastest-growing source of electricity production in the world. • Wind mills have been in use since 2000 B.C.
