  1. AcousMed project MEDIAS Acoustic Survey Database

  2. Subtask 3.4. Standardization of a common format for acoustic data· Review of all existing databases from the five surveyed areas. Each participant will be responsible for providing the necessary information to the co-ordinator of this sub-task. · Review of the output of the different software used for acoustic data analysis (i.e. Movies and Myriax Echoview) · Review of the data requirements of the DCR concerning the acoustic surveys data (i.e. total abundance indices, abundance at age indices) · Based on the previous input a common protocol on the format of acoustic data from all areas will be decided within the framework of a specific Workshop that will take place by the end of the first year of the study. · The fields of a common database according to this protocol will be proposed for incorporation into the (Pan-Mediterranean Acoustic Surveys) protocol.

  3. Brief notes about databases from the different MEDIAS groups ISMAR-CNR: we started to develope a database in Access that by now stores satellite environmental data and trawl data to be completed in the future with other informations; there is the possibility to map the loaded data in Arcview IFREMER: 1) Fishview ,2) Database in Access (Barracuda), mapping in Arcview, HCMR: Database in Access (Acoustic and biologic data are separate), mapping in Surfer IAMC-CNR: 1) Access, 2) Postgres IEO: Arcview, Arcgis

  4. ISMAR-CNR: Database in Access contains SST data and Chlorophyll-a satellite data. There is the possibility to calculate mean values of an entire fileset (for example referred to average surface temperatures in one month) or of a portion of the fileset. Maps in an appropriate colour scale can be represented into Arcview GIS by a direct link function

  5. Trawl data are also stored into the Access database and the informations reported below can be loaded

  6. Proposals for fields to be included into a common database

  7. Calibration report Speed of sound (ms-1) * Frequency (kHz) * TS of sphere (dB) * Echosounder type * Pulse duration (s) * Transducer serial no. * Equivalent 2-way beam angle (dB) * Vessel C Default Sv transducer gain * Date * Iteration no. C Place C Time * Latitude C Range to sphere (m) * Longitude C Ping rate C Bottom depth (m) C Calibrated Sv transducer gain * Temperature (oC) at sphere depth C Time (GMT) * Salinity (psu) at sphere depth C *.- Data you can find in the EK60 report sheet. Improve/update the above report with fields from EK60 report sheet? Sa correction, RMS etc..

  8. Calculations of mean sizes of the pelagic species and of their % in number and weight should be incorporated in the database

  9. Starting from NASC fish the calculation of the other results should be possibly included in the database
