Some Changes at SAMSI • Directorate • Search for the new director (to start July 1, 2010) is well underway • Pierre Gremaud (applied math, NCSU) will become full-time Deputy Director on January 1, 2010, with primary roles of • overseeing the arrangements with NCSU; • managing the education and outreach program; • handling day-to-day program operations • Supplementary Postdoctoral Program • NSF awarded SAMSI a $1.065M supplement to enable hiring of additional postdoctoral fellows • Seven 2-year positions; one 1-year position • The DMS math/stat institutes (see webpage) had a joint application process • 43 jobs total • 783 applicants • 359 US citizens or permanent residents • SAMSI had 210 applicants (plus 120 through our own system)

Some Changes at SAMSI • What the new building means to SAMSI • holding almost all workshops at SAMSI; • having larger classes; • simultaneous working group meetings; • space for spontaneous meetings; • common room for coffee, meals, and informal interactions (also with NISS people) • many more visitors; those for 2009-10 (red – from affiliates)
