Moses vs The Israelites • Numbers 11 – The Israelites wanted flesh to eat. • 11:10-15 – Look for the concerns of Moses to the Lord. • v16 – The Lord has an answer for Him • The seventy are introduced. • The Lord has an answer for the people, too. • v31-33 – Quails are sent forth, but also plague. Why? • Back to v4 • They were “lusting”. How is that different than hunger? • They had Manna (John 6:49) • It wasn’t enough, their appetites were a sin.
Numbers 14 • V2 • Here comes the murmuring again • V11-12 • This time, the Lord is done. He is ready to just wipe them out and start over with a new nation. • What does Moses do? (v17-19) • Was the Lord really going to destroy, or was He just testing Moses? • I would like to think that the prophets are pleading on our behalf today as well, even though we are as dumb as the Israelites sometimes.
We have two sets of relationships • The Lord and the Israelites • The Lord has to give very specific instructions. • He has to continually show them signs. • Moses is the glue keeping them together • The Lord and Moses • A feeling of working together • Spiritual and Personal connection • The Lord teaches Moses spiritually, and also how to be a leader • What is our relationship with the Lord? • He does not forsake us either way. Numbers 6:23-26
Notebook Ideas • How would you compare your relationship to the Lord with the Israelites or Moses? Are there times when it is more like one than the other? • How do you arrange different symbols, people, ideas in your life? What is in the center?
