Types of Reefs http://www.mrstevennewman.com/geo/GBR/Reefs/Barrier.htm Fringing Reefs are reefs that form along a coastline. They grow on the continental shelf in shallow water. Barrier Reefs grow parallel to shorelines, but farther out, usually separated from the land by a deep lagoon. They are called barrier reefs because they form a barrier between the lagoon and seas.
Other types http://www.factmonster.com/dk/encyclopedia/islands.html Coral Atolls are rings of coral that grow on top of old, volcano’s, the reef continues to grow, and eventually only the reef remains.
The Weather • Coral reefs develop in shallow, warm water, usually near land, and mostly in the tropics; coral prefer temperatures between 21 - 30 °C. http://beauty-places.com/beautiful-coral-reefs/
Animals That Live in Coral Reefs Angel Shark Angel sharks are adapted to live in coral reefs because they eat reef animals which are fish, crustaceans, and mollusks (like squid). Angel sharks are also used to the deep, shallow water. http://www.oceanwideimages.com/ search.asp?s=Australian%20Angel%20Shark
Clown Fish Clown fish are adapted to live in coral reefs because they eat the anemones leftovers. http://true-wildlife.blogspot.com/2011/02/clown-fish.html Anemones

Lettuce Coral Lettuce coral had adaptation problems at the beginning because of bleaching but not anymore. http://photography.nationalgeographic.com /photography/photos/underwater-landscapes/ #/lettuce-coral-nicklen_18444_600x450.jpg
How Humans Affect Coral Reefs http://peakwater.org/wp-content /uploads/2011/01/water-pollution.jpg Coral reefs need the right temperature and clean water to survive, and when humans pollute the air or water, it hurts the reef. Even pollution from people living far away from the ocean can affect the coral, because water is always moving around the Earth through rivers and streams and through the water system.
