  2. What is Checkpoint? Cambridge Checkpoint tests are designed for use in the final year of each of the following levels of education: • Primary (class 5) • Secondary (class 8) • Ordinary (class 11) • Advanced levels

  3. Primary Checkpoint is not a PASS/FAIL Test!! The results give schools an international benchmark of learner performance to identify and address learning needs (diagnostic) in English, Mathematics and Science. The tests are externally marked by Cambridge

  4. Cambridge Primary...... develops knowledge and skills in English, Mathematics and Science sets clear learning objectives, that are shared with you provides excellent preparation for secondary education is taught in over 950 schools in almost 100 countries

Cambridge learners Cambridge supports schools to develop learners who are: confident in working with information and ideas – their own and those of others responsiblefor themselves, responsive to and respectful of others reflective as learners, developing their ability to learn innovativeand equipped for new and future challenges engaged intellectually and socially, ready to make a difference

  6. Salient Features of the programme Checkpoint in Year 5 is designed to be a diagnostic test for 10 – 11 years olds. It is not a test of 1 year’s knowledge but of all previous years’ teaching. Although it is a diagnostic test of a students learning, it would be unfair to expect students to be exposed to these tests without some preparation.

  7. Students will be registered for the Primary Checkpoint -2020 on the basis of diagnostic test which will be held in December’19. • The Checkpoint tests will be held in April 2020. • Before that practice test sessions will start in early 2020. • Along with these tests the regular assessments of the students will also be conducted. • Some or all parts of a practice tests may be counted as an internal assessment.

  8. Why Practice Papers are Important? • This practice will be covering the entire syllabus. • It will help develop time management skills and focal span. • The corrections of these tests is equally important. • It is strongly advised that students should go through these tests at home too, for better reinforcement.

  9. What is Important for students? • Set Short-Term and Long-Term Goals • Master Time Management • Always do your homework & assignments in time • Use Test-Taking Strategies • Be Regular: Take Good Care of Yourself

  10. Structure of Primary Checkpoint The students will be assessed in three subjects only: 1. ENGLISH 2. SCIENCE 3. MATHEMATICS

  11. Strands for English (Cambridge Primary Checkpoint ) • Reading • Writing

  12. Primary Checkpoint – English 2 papers – 1 hour each Paper 1 is non-fiction text Paper 2 is fiction text Both papers test comprehension and writing.

  13. Strands for Science • Biology • Chemistry • Physics • Scientific Enquiry

  14. Primary Checkpoint Science Primary Checkpoint Science 2 papers – 45 minutes each All strands are covered in both papers

  15. The Mathematics curriculum is presented in the following content areas: • Numbers • Geometry &Measure • Data Handling

  16. MATHEMATICS Primary Checkpoint – Mathematics 2 papers Paper 1 – 45 minutes, calculators NOT allowed. Paper 2 – 45 minutes, calculators ALLOWED All strands are covered in both papers

Primary Checkpoint Result Two documents are given for every subject for each learner. • Report for students • Statement of Achievement Report for Student • Learners’ strengths, questions they answered well compared to similar ability students. • Learners weaknesses, questions where their answers were below those of similar ability students. • Overall subject result, result of each strand and scoring explanation.
