Learning Objects • 6,851 LOs in over 40 languages • Individual target language texts with translations, transcriptions, glossaries, background notes, and comprehension questions • New LOs for 2009: Afan Oromo, Amharic, Iraqi Arabic, Moroccan Arabic, Sudanese Arabic, Balochi, Bambara, Burmese, Chavacano, Dari, Hausa, Hebrew, Igbo, Kashmiri, North Korean, Pashto, Shona, Somali, Swahili, Thai, Tigrinya, Turkish, Uzbek, Wolof, and Yoruba
Assessment Objects • 610 AOs in 24 languages • Items in multiple choice or constructed response format, depending on the language • Detailed feedback provided • New AOs for 2009: Egyptian Arabic (L), Levantine Arabic (L), Cebuano (L & R), Chavacano (L), Dari (R), African French (R), Tausug (L), Turkish (L & R), Urdu (L & R)
Recognizing Dialects - Arabic • Also known as Arabic Variants Identification (AVI) • Job aid designed to help MSA learners at ILR 2 and above differentiate Arabic dialects in nine geographic regions of North Africa and the Middle East • AVI Demo
Fundamentals of Translation • Introductory course for novice translators who translate in practice but do not have any formal translation training • Language-specific content available in Korean for 2009 • FOT Demo
Thematic Units • Collections of texts that share a theme; sub-divided into more specific topics • Designed to enhance domain-specific language proficiency in areas relevant to the target audience • Based on current theories in SLA and foreign language teaching (i.e., TBLT) • TU Demo
