BPS Programme for Rheumatic Fever reduction Dr Chrissie Pickin National Programme Lead 04 816 3983
Example of a new BPS approach • Focus on outcomes and results (so you have been given targets) • Requires inter-sectoral collaboration to deliver (housing, education, health) and local and national levels • Don’t panic- some people in your DHB have been doing this anyway! • Have removed the bit on school hygiene ( but is in PHU guidance, national work on this)
DHB targets ( Regional In South Island) • Baseline is mean of last 3 financial years (2009/10, 10/11, 11/12) • Main performance accountability measure • Aware of issue of small numbers and have calculated confidence intervals • Not met – only if outside of those confidence intervals • Met if at or below the target number of cases
RF Prevention Plan • To include your approach to delivering a range of preventive actions • By first quarter 2013/14 but many will have or wish to produce sooner • Relative to the need locally ( no cases = v short plan). Following the guidance will deliver additional benefits to the local health system • Discuss with your PHU, child health manager, PHOs etc as they will be doing (or planning) much of this already • Six monthly report against plan- with short MoH template ( to be provided) • Exception report only if not on track to achieve target
