Measurable Annual Goals Measurable Annual Goals describe the anticipated progress that will result from specially designed instruction the student will receive. Purpose
Additional requirements for Students taking the KAMM • Goals in the content area being assessed with the KAMM • All academic goals on the IEP are standards-based
Goals in the Content area to be Assessed • A student taking the Reading KAMM must have an IEP goal in the area of reading. • A student taking the Mathematics KAMM must have an IEP goal in the area of math.
Standards-Based IEP Goals Required: All academic goals on the IEP for any student participating in the KAMM are closely linked to the Kansas standards
Documenting the Standards-based Goal • Review student’s grade level content standards. • Identify prerequisite skills the student will need to achieve in order to reach grade level standards (indicators). • Select specific skill that the goal(s) will focus on. • Insure that baseline data specific to the skill has been collected. • Write the goal to contain behavior, condition, criteria, and timeframe. • Reference/write the specific Standard, Benchmark, and Indicator that is addressed with the goal.

Short-Term Objectives and Benchmarks in IDEA 04 • No longer required for all IEPs • All goals on an IEP for a student taking the Kansas Alternate Assessment must include benchmarks or short term objectives
Clarifying Requirements • KAMM = Standards-based academic goals • KAA = ALL goals must have benchmarks &/or short-term objectives (no requirement for standards-based goals) • KAMM and KAA Combo = ALL academic goals must be standards-based and ALL goals must have benchmarks and/or short-term objectives
Short-Term Objectives and Benchmarks Specify intermediate progress toward the goal that allows you to determine whether progress is sufficient to meet the goal.
Short-Term ObjectiveCharacteristic #1 • Is a sequential, progressive, intermediate measureof progress toward theannual goal.
Short-Term ObjectiveCharacteristic #2 • Is a restatement of the goal with a different criterion.
BenchmarkCharacteristic #1 • Are milestones that describe content learned or skills to be performed.
BenchmarkCharacteristic #2 • Are distinct skills that are often independent of each other but must be combined to meet the measurable annual goal.
BenchmarkCharacteristic #3 • Are used when progress is not easily quantified and is basedon task analysis.
