Background Linkswith Tory Hill Farm were developed in 2011.Tory Hill offers Equine Assisted Learning –EAL and Equine Assisted Psychotherapy EAP. How EAP works Equine Assisted Psychotherapy involves using therapeutic activities in an arena to develop emotional growth and personal development with a team consisting of horses, a licensed therapist and a horse professional, who can work together to address treatment goals. Participants have the opportunity to explore new behaviours and skills through interactions with the horse. The horses act as a mirror for the person's behaviour and respond quickly to changes. The process of Equine Assisted Therapy is not riding or horsemanship. All of the work of therapy takes place on the ground. The focus involves setting up activities involving the horses which will require the individual participants to use certain skills e.g. leading a horse over a pole, or through a maze. The Benefits. EAP is experiential in nature. This means that participants learn about themselves and others by collaborating in activities with the horses, and then processing or discussing feelings, behaviours, and patterns. Participants are facilitated to address a range of emotional and mental health needs and are supported in developing personal awareness . It is considered a short-term, or "brief" approach. The setting is the natural rural and in part unspoilt countryside. The environment which includes a lake, bog-land and streams set in woods and fields with an abundance of fresh air is in itself calming and restorative. It is a mainstream therapeutic setting where the focus is on personal growth and emotional development. .
