Jennifer King, Director of The Annual Gardere MLK Jr. Competition, talks with the semifinalists prior to the event to answer questions and help calm nerves. Lawana Porter, Coordinator – Community Relations with Dallas ISD Communication Services, finalizes some last minute details prior to the beginning of the semifinals.
Kalyce Simpson and José Ortiz, cast members on the Emmy-Award winning television show School Zone Dallas, serve as the Masters of Ceremonies in the Dallas Semifinals, where it will be determined which eight students will advance to the 19th Annual Gardere Oratory Competition.
Dr. Lew Blackburn, First Vice President of the Dallas ISD Board of Trustees, offered parents, family members, teachers and competitors the opening greeting.
Gardere Wynne Sewell Partner Dwight Francis served as head judge and offered opening remarks to attendees.
The next several slides show the Umphrey Lee Elementary School Choir in action. They provided enjoyable entertainment while the judges deliberated.
