Positives Influences of Technology Technology often serves as a quick fix to buy us time for future social engineering • Medicine (ex: Methadone) • Energy • Transportation
Negative Influences of Technology On the other hand, quick fixes can create additional new social problems within society • Pollution (nuclear waste) • Immunity to medicine/emergence of new viruses • Internet/cell phones • The absence of human interaction
Rationality • Technologists: people are not rational technology needed to establish a quick fix or a solution to a problem • Social Engineers: people are rational they have the ability to change their lifestyles by their own means; psychology
Are we kidding ourselves into believing technology is making our lives easier? Can technology replace social engineering?
