  1. South Weber CityNewsletter May 2010 MESSAGE FROM THE MAYOR The City Office will be Closed Monday, May 31 in Observance of MEMORIAL DAY CITY LOGO We are looking for ideas for a new City Logo. If you have any ideas or suggestions, please submit them to the City Office by the end of May. 1600 EAST SOUTH WEBER DR SOUTH WEBER, UTAH 84405 (801) 479-3177 fax (801) 479-0066 With the spring weather here it looks like everyone is coming out of hibernation It is good to see the walkers and runners making their way around the City and everyone prepping their yards for the summer growing season. I have a couple of items I would like to make everyone aware of as a community. First, I hope you take advantage of the City’s website. The website provides an account of current and upcoming activities to be aware of and gives helpful information at the touch of a button. Please take advantage of the website, it is free! Second, City Staff and Council are busy working through the budget process and I hope that as a community, you take the time to attend the open public meetings pertaining to the budget, which provides an opportunity to understand the general programs for appropriating the resources required to fund City services and facilities. With that, I would like to thank the City Council and Staff for their hard work and time they put into their responsibilities in making and keeping this a great place to live. I would like to leave you with this thought: One of our most precious items in life is our time and we shouldn’t take the times in our life for granted. Someone once said “No time like the present” and “Don’t count every hour in the day, make every hour in the day count.” I hope you have a great spring and make time to enjoy smelling the flowers. Mayor Jeff Monroe City Office Hours Monday through Thursday 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Friday 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Closed Saturday and Sunday In This Issue Mayors Message Managers Minute Neighborhood Watch Country Fair Days Emergency Preparation Supporting Troops Family Activity Center

  2. MANAGERS MINUTE City Projects- Currently the City is working to complete the first phase of Canyon Meadows Park which consists of the baseball field and land- scaping. Once this is complete it will be a great place for families to recreate and enjoy the great outdoors. On April 13, the City Council approved a resolution in naming the baseball field Staker Parson Field. This was in recognition of the company’s generous donation of $22,000 worth of their highest quality infield sand for the diamond. This will be one of the nicest baseball diamonds in the area and we are grateful for the support of Staker Parsons. State of the City- One question I often get is “So how is the City?” The City budget has certainly felt the impacts of a slow economy. Although sales tax has dropped across the country, South Weber’s sales tax revenues have not been nearly as impacted as has been the slowing of the development-related revenues (i.e. impact fees, building permit fees, subdivision fees, etc.). The good news is that the City has done well to budget development-related revenues as one-time monies and has not built a reliance on them as a means to support ongoing programs and services. The City departments have worked hard to trim back budgets and have pushed many capital equipment needs back in hopes of the economy turning around. Economists say we can expect 2010 will remain flat but are expecting a slow upturn in 2011. We can also expect interest rates and inflation to increase by late 2010. So all things considered, the City remains financially stable and we’ll continue working hard to provide the highest quality of services for your money. Matt Dixon City Manager NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH Spring is here- a time when everyone wants to be outside and people are on the streets. Please watch for young children playing while you drive through neighborhoods. Spring is also the time to start opening doors and windows in cars and houses. When away from cars or houses- ALWAYS remember to shut and lock all doors and windows! Do not leave keys in ignition or cars running while going into the house or store to help prevent theft. Please report any thing that may seem suspicious to the Davis County Sheriffs non-emergency line at 801-444-2280. Please clean rain gutters, ditches and drains to allow the water to flow without obstruction away from your home. THINKING ABOUT CHICKENS? Visit the City’s website for regulations, requirements and more information. COUNTRY FAIR DAYS CFD is right around the corner- it is scheduled for July 31to August 7. This years Chair’s are Traci and Tony Harper. Please contact them at 801-479-0650 to volunteer or if you have any questions. They would appreciate any help or donations given. Dates and times of the events will be announced in future newsletters and on the City’s website. South Weber City Newsletter May 2010 www.southwebercity.com www.twitter.com/South_Weber_UT
