  1. BIS on Microsoft Cluster Server(MSCS)Software By Suman Athuluri BIS Development May 25, 2011 Session ID : BIS 3016

  2. Agenda • Prerequisites • Cluster Basics • Microsoft Cluster Server • Different Configurations • Example • How to deploy BIS on a Cluster Environment? • Questions? © 2011 Unisys Corporation. All rights reserved.

  3. Cluster Basics Fig : Two Node Cluster © 2011 Unisys Corporation. All rights reserved.

  4. Cluster Basics Cluster Technologies Failover Clusters • To provide high availability and recovery solution Performance Clusters • To provide more performance © 2011 Unisys Corporation. All rights reserved.

  5. Microsoft Cluster Server • Microsoft Cluster Server (MSCS) is a failover solution that works on Win 2003 and Win 2008 • In Win 2008 MSCS is renamed to “Failover Cluster” Primary purpose • To allow the standby system to take over the primary system in the event of failure Limitation • It does not provide any additional performance to the system, since only one node is active at a time © 2011 Unisys Corporation. All rights reserved.

  6. Different Configuration • Share the Entire Business Information Server • Share None of the Installation © 2011 Unisys Corporation. All rights reserved.

  7. Share the Entire Business Information Server H:\BIS$1 H:\BISSITES\A\DBFILE \RESULT © 2011 Unisys Corporation. All rights reserved.

  8. Trade off’s Advantages • Move or failover of the cluster group is both rapid and seamless. • You only have to maintain one copy of software (one license required). • You only have to maintain one database. Disadvantages • Not possible to do a rolling upgrade. © 2011 Unisys Corporation. All rights reserved.

  9. Share None of the Installation C:\BIS$1 C:\BISSITES\A\DBFILE \RESULT C:\BIS$1 C:\BISSITES\A\DBFILE \RESULT © 2011 Unisys Corporation. All rights reserved.

  10. Trade off’s Advantages • Rolling upgrade is possible. • A node can operate independently as the sole possible owner. Disadvantages • The common database must be manually synchronized. • Maintenance cost of multiple copies of software with multiple licenses required. © 2011 Unisys Corporation. All rights reserved.

  14. Define the Cluster Group • Cluster ID = BIS-Cluster • Node 1 = BIS-Node01 • Node 2 = BIS-Node02 • Cluster IP Address = BIS-Node • Drive H is the shared physical disk that will contain the following two directories • H:\BIS$1 holds the program space • H:\BISSITES holds the database © 2011 Unisys Corporation.
