What’s an ISN? • ISN – Interactive science notebook • Organizes your notes… • …while giving you space to add diagrams, drawings and mnemonics you need to understand the material.
Decorating the ISN Cover • You can attach cut-outs, drawings, photos, and other images to the front and back covers. • Do NOT add any inappropriate pictures. Ask me if you have questions.
Title Page • Your Name • Course Title and Period Number • School Term (2014-2015) • Three words that describe you • What goals do you want to accomplish in life?
Table of Contents Table of Contents • On the next three pages, draw a line down the left and right margin. • Write the phrase “Table of Contents” above the center column on each of those pages.
Table of Contents Table of Contents Date Page # • Now, write the word “Date” above the left column. • Finally, write the phrase “Page #” above the right column.
1 2 • Start numbering your pages on the page after the table of contents. • Number your pages on the top outer corner. • For now, just number the first 50 pages.
The Syllabus • Attach each page of the syllabus to the first two numbered pages of your ISN. • In your table of contents, write: • Today’s date in the left entry • “Syllabus” in the center entry • “1-2” on the right entry.
Student Group Table • Attach the Student Group Table to the back side of the title page. • Fill out the group table as directed. • In this class, you will work in groups from time to time. For each group activity, you will be given partner assignments. This table will tell you who to work with on all group work.
Using your ISN • The even-numbered pages should be on the right. • Record and attach lecture notes to this side • Attach your lab procedures to this side • Classwork will be added to this side, where it will be graded later
Using your ISN • The odd-numbered pagesshould be on the left. • Add diagrams, drawings, and concept maps to relate to the notes on the right • Add data from each lab; make table and graphs as appropriate • This side can be used as scratch paper for classwork on the opposite side.
ISN Rubric • Attach your ISN’s rubric to the very last page in your ISN. • This rubric explains how I will grade your ISN. It also has a table for recording your grade.
