  2. Allegory • An allegory is a narrative that can be read on more than one level. In an allegory, the objects, people, and actions are representative of meanings outside of the narrative. An allegory is essentially a group of symbols working together to create meaning. • A fable is a short story, often one with animals as characters, that illustrates a moral.

  3. “The Tortoise and the Hare” • A fable, by Aesop • A lazy and distractible hare, despite being faster than the diligent and persistent tortoise, loses a race.

  4. C.S. Lewis’s The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe • The White Witch corrupts Edmund by giving him Turkish Delight.
