Training Objectives • Allow trainees to develop teaching capability within a ‘safe’ environment (but at same time encourage them to gradually step out of their comfort zone) • Deliver a sound understanding of pupils and learning • Allow time to review and share experiences and good practice (as a whole group) • Train mentors to ensure a consistent approach • NB Programme runs continually throughout block practice

Achieving Objectives • Presentations by ASTs (could be experienced staff) who deliver appropriate models of lesson planning and teaching and learning strategies. • Lesson support and/or observations by Head of Training School and ASTs • Involvement of staff with expertise in specific areas • Discussion forums - trainees, Head of Training School and ASTs • Mentor training and support • Presentations by ASTs (could be experienced staff) who deliver appropriate models of lesson planning and teaching and learning strategies. • Lesson support and/or observations by Head of Training School and ASTs • Involvement of staff with expertise in specific areas • Discussion forums - trainees, Head of Training School and ASTs • Mentor training and support
