The Vietnam Conflict Why the US Got Involved
A social and political construct that calls for a classless, stateless, and moneyless social society • There is common ownership • In Western cultures, communism is viewed as a threat against democracy • Vietnam slowly became communist in the 1940s after their government was overthrown Communism

The Vietnam conflict Guerilla Warfare
A term used to describe the type of irregular fighting that occurred in the Vietnam War • Small groups of combatants, which could include civilians, take on military style tactics and mobility to fight • Highly mobile, and extremely dangerous Guerilla Warfare
In Vietnam, the guerilla soldiers were members of the Viet Cong (AKA National Liberation Front) • North Vietnamese group fighting South Vietnam and the United States • Wanted communism • Had both regular and guerilla armies Viet Cong
Due to the terrain in Vietnam, guerilla warfare was especially dangerous • Dense forestry and an extensive underground tunnel system made it easy for the enemy to hide and ambush • Hard for traditional armies to maneuver and had to change their style of fighting Guerilla Warfare- Terrain
In addition to the terrain, the weather made fighting conditions miserable • It is extremely wet in Vietnam and would rain for weeks leaving soldiers soggy and cold • It was very difficult to transport goods and soldiers due to the dense forestry • Helicopters played an integral role in transport and many more people would have died without them Conditions
