  1. The Family & the Home Lesson 11: Problems Facing Families

  2. Family Problems • Family problems are as old as Adam, Eve, Cain, and Abel (Gen. 3-4) • Why problems? When sin enters into the family there will be a problem one way or the other! • Today, we hear of many “broken homes,” “dysfunctional families,” “fragmented families,” etc. Family problems lead to local church problems and nation problems!

  3. Family Problems • Problem with same-sex marriages (Rom. 1:24-26) • Problem with divorce (Mt. 5:32; 19:9; Mk. 10:11-12; Lk. 16:8; Rom. 7:2-3) • Problem with roles (Eph. 5:22 – 6:4): many will not fulfill the roles that God has given in the home for the man, the woman, and the children

  4. Family Problems Misc. problems… • Marriage “let downs” where couples stop acting right (courtesy, compliments, self-respect, loving sacrifice, selflessness, trust, etc.) • Selfishness, anger, unjust criticisms, nagging, etc. • Alcohol, drugs, sexual immorality, middle-aged “fling”

Family Problems • Gossip, meddling (Prov. 18:8; 1 Tim. 5:13) • Absenteeism: spouses growing apart, parents abandoning the children • Worldliness (Rom. 1:18-31; 1 Cor. 6:9-11; Gal. 5:19-21; Eph. 4; Col. 3; 1 Jn. 2:15-17) • Evil influence from the outside: movies, music, media, pornography, Internet, friends, etc. (Prov. 1:10; 13:20; 1 Cor. 15:33)

  6. The Broken Home Broken homes lead to… • Child abuse (emotional, physical), child neglect (emotional, physical), orphans • Immorality, criminal activity • Irreligion, unbelief, unfaithfulness
