4. Phone Calls Time Period for Phone Calls (13.1.3.1) • Initial phone calls to prospects are permissible beginning July 1 following completion of prospects junior year of high school • Exceptions: • Men’s Basketball (one call per month after 6/15 of sophomore year) • Women’s Basketball (one call during April of junior year) • Football (one call from 4/15 – 5/31 of junior year) • Men’s Hockey (one call per month between 6/15 after sophomore year and 7/31 of junior year; one call a week beginning 8/1 following completion of junior year) • Women’s Hockey (one call to foreign prospect from 7/7 – 7/31 following sophomore year)

5. Phone Calls General Exceptions to the ONE call a week limitation: • Official Visit Exception (13.1.3.3.1) • Unlimited phone calls are permissible during the five days preceding official visit and during the official visit • NLI Signing Date Exception (13.1.3.3.2) • Unlimited phone calls are permitted the initial day of the signing period and the two days immediately following the initial signing day • Football Exception – coaches may make unlimited phone calls 48 hours prior to and 48 hours after 7am of the NLI initial signing date

Phone Calls General Exceptions Continued…. • NLI Signing/Other Written Commitment (13.1.3.3.3) • Unlimited phone calls after the calendar day in which the prospect signs a NLI • After Receipt of Financial Deposit (13.1.3.3.4) • On or after May 1 of senior year, unlimited phone calls are permissible provided we have received a financial deposit • Off-Campus Contact (13.1.3.3.5) • Unlimited phone calls are permissible on the day a permissible in-person, off-campus contact occurs

Phone Calls Permissible Callers (13.1.3.4) • All telephone calls involving prospects, parents or coaches must be made and received by a countable coach • EXCEPTIONS • Director of Athletics/Senior Woman Administrator • Return call is subject to number of calls in a given time period • Academic Counselors • Call is subject to number of calls in a given time period • Compliance • Noncoaching staff member – In conjunction with official visit

8. Phone Calls Non-Permissible Callers (13.1.3.5) • Boosters • May receive calls from prospect, but call may not include recruiting discussion about athletic program • Enrolled Student-Athletes/Students • Can’t make or participate in phone calls with prospects at direction of coaching or athletic staff member Camp/Clinic Logistical Issues (13.1.3.7) • Calls about camps/clinics are not subject to phone call restrictions – NO RECRUITING MAY OCCUR

9. Letter of Intent Written Offer Prior to Signing Date (13.9.2.2) • Not permissible prior to August 1 of prospect’s senior year Limitations on NLI Signees (13.9.2.3 – Football) • Annual limit of 28 prospects who may sign from initial date through May 31 Comments Before Signing (13.10.2) • Not permissible – may only confirm recruitment of prospect

Tryouts and Local Sports Clubs Local Sports Clubs (13.11.2.3) • In sports other than basketball, coaches may be involved in local sports clubs or organizations • Prospects must live within a 50 mile radius of the institution • Exception – a prospect that lives outside the 50 mile radius may participate if we can document that the sports club is the closest club available.

13. Tryouts and Local Sports Clubs Local Sports Clubs Continued…. • Athletic department or booster group may not sponsor a local sports club • Women’s Volleyball (13.11.2.3.4) – during a dead or quiet period, coaches may not coach a local sports club team at an off-campus competition where prospects are present. Coaches may coach own club team in practice.

Tryouts and Local Sports Clubs Medical Examinations (13.11.2.5) • We may conduct medical exams during a prospect’s official or unofficial visit • No athletic department staff member other than athletic trainer may be present • Exam does not include any test designed to measure athletic agility or skill • Results of exam are not used to deny admission

Camps and Clinics Camp Brochure (12.5.1.6) • Camp promotional materials (brochure, ads, web site) may not use a student-athlete’s name or picture to promote the camp other than in the camp counselor section • We may advertise or promote an institutional camp or clinic in any fashion (elite camp), provided the promotional materials indicate the camp(s) are open to any all.

Camps and Clinics Camp/Recruiting Advertisements (13.4.3.1) • We may not advertise camps (or promote sport programs) at any competition site where prospects compete • Recruiting Publication • If it includes a camp directory • Size (not to exceed ½ page) and format of ads are identical • Camp directory must include multiple listings on each page

17. Camps and Clinics Camp Discounts • Must be published • Must be available to any and all campers • Only permissible to children of institutional staff members – relatives of institutional staff members may not receive a discount if of prospect age

Recruiting/Scouting Services Recruiting/Scouting Services (13.14.3) • Available to all schools at same fee rate • Publicly identifies all rates • Disseminates info on prospects at least 4 times a year • Provides analysis beyond demographic and rankings for each prospect • Provides access to free samples or previews before purchase • If site provides video, video must be restricted to regular season contests

19. Permissible Expenses ACT and SAT Scores (13.15.2.1) • We may pay the fee to obtain prospects’ test scores • If prospect has signed NLI, we may pay for testing agency to submit test score to NCAA Eligibility Center • If prospect has signed NLI, we may pay express mail charges for high school to send transcript to NCAA Eligibility Center and Admissions

20. New Recruiting Legislation 2010 – 33 Effective 8/1/11 • Women’s Basketball – Increase in recruiting opportunities to 7 2010 – 38 – B Effective 8/1/11 • Media Guides may only be provided via e-mail (no more jump drives)

21. New Recruiting Legislation 2010 – 41 - A Effective 8/1/11 • May provide two additional complimentary admissions to prospect that is a member of nontraditional family during unofficial visits (stepparents)

23. Meals Associated with Competitions Home Competition (16.5.2) • May provide meals at discretion: • Evening before competition • Until released after contest • No cash provided in lieu of meals during this time period • Meal or $15 • At time of release

Meals Associated with Competitions Away From Home Competition (16.5.2) • Option 1 • Regular meals or meal allowance • Pregame or Postgame meal (not both) • $15 at time of release in lieu of Postgame meal • Option 2 • Meals at school’s discretion • Beginning when team is required to “report on call” for team travel until return to campus • No cash provided to student-athletes in lieu of meals • Meal or $15 at time of release/return to campus

25. Occasional Meals Occasional Meals (16.11.1.5) • Permissible on infrequent and special occasions • Big Ten guideline is no more than 4 meals a semester • Complete approval form prior to meal taking place

26. Team Travel Departure/Return Expense Restrictions (16.8.1.2.1) • Teams may not depart campus earlier than 48 hours prior to start of competition • Must return no more than 36 hours (24 hours in MBB) following end of competition

27. Team Travel Exceptions to 48/36 Hour Rule (16.8.1.2.1.1) • Contests in Hawaii and Alaska • Travel during official vacation period (including summer) • Travel prior to NCAA Championship Events • Travel after NCAA Championship Events during official vacation periods

28. Team Entertainment Away from Home Competition (16.7.1) • Permissible to pay actual costs of reasonable entertainment w/in 100 mile radius of practice or competition • May not provide cash to student-athletes for entertainment purposes • Pro sports tickets are permissible

Team Entertainment Vacation Periods (16.7.1) • When team is required to remain on campus during vacation period • Permissible to pay actual costs of reasonable entertainment w/in 30 miles of campus • May not provide cash to student-athletes for entertainment purposes • Pro sports tickets are not permissible

30. Team Entertainment Movies in Conjunction w/ Home Contest (16.7.2) • Permissible night before a contest • DVD Rentals • Pay-per-view in hotel rooms • Movie Theater • May not provide cash

31. Academic Counseling/Support Services Permissible Academic Support Services (16.3.1.1.1) • Academic Support Services • Tutoring • Computer labs • Copy and fax machines (for required course work) • Required course supplies • Nonelectronic day planners • Any item deemed necessary for student-athlete academic success (16.3.1.1)

32. Extra Benefits General Rule • Student-Athletes may not receive extra benefits • Examples: • Discounts on services or goods not available to general public/student body • Free or reduced rent/lodging • Use of automobiles • Professional sporting event tickets • Items not legislated as permissible by the NCAA
