  15. How to Create a Fitness Culture? • Three Possible Options • Educated staff only. • Build a fitness center. • Stand alone • Integrated with Learning Center • Junior Performance Center.

  16. Finding a Fitness Professional

  17. Fitness Professionals • Certification: • Should be nationally certified. • ACE, NASM, NSCA, ISSA, ACSM, NFPT and AFFA. • A background in physical education or exercise science is always a plus. • TPI Certification – “Find an Expert”

  18. Fitness Professionals • Experience: • 3-5 years of experience in personal training. • Nationally certified in personal training. • Knowledge of how to physically screen a golfer. • Advanced knowledge of exercise equipment • Master of fitness program design and implementation strategies. • Comfortable working one-on-one and in group situations. • Can speak the language of golf and feels comfortable around golfers.

  19. Fitness Professionals • Appearance: • Do they look the part? - should look relatively fit • If that individual can’t keep themselves in shape, what makes you think they’ll be of much help getting and keeping your clients that way? • Do they look like a golfer. • If they look like they have never stepped a foot on a golf course, this can make your clients feel uncomfortable and out of place.

  20. Fitness Professionals • Pricing and Policies: • Make sure your trainer doesn’t have another job or travel schedule that interferes with scheduling. • As for cost, rates can range from $50 to $150 per hour depending on the part of the country, • Ask about cancellation policies. A 24-hour cancellation policy is reasonable.

  21. Fitness Professionals • Record Keeping: • Make sure the trainer is keeping a record log of all your clients workouts. Assuming they’ve got a lot of clients, it’s unlikely they’re able to keep it all in memory. • Watch your prospective trainer handling other clients for about a week or two before deciding whether to use them.

  22. Building a Fitness Center • Size should never be over 7,500 sq. ft. • Open space is good. • Area for group exercise is great option. • Functional equipment should dominate.

  23. Option 2 – 500 sq. ft.

  24. Option 3 – 875 sq. ft.

  25. Option 4 – 1225 sq. ft.

  26. The Reality • Only 5 Choices • Golf School Retention • Lifestyles of Kids • Nutrition of Kids

  27. Introduction Our Philosophy: Junior golf schools need to develop fundamental movement skills, establish functional movement patterns, develop sport specific skills, teach golf-specific skills, and most importantly create a love for the game.

  28. Why Do Kids Want to Play Sports • Fun • Friends • Fit in • Feels Good • To do something they are good at.

  29. Why Do Kids Not Play Sports • Not Fun • Forced to play • Teasing • Not good – They never win • Too much pressure • In competition too soon • Poor coaching • It hurts
