6. The Smoke Free Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Alliance is a multi-agency group working to promote smoke-free environments and reduce smoking throughout Cambridgeshire and Peterborough. The Alliance consists of representatives from health improvement, environmental health, healthy schools, trading standards, customs and others. • Sheila Collins will be available to discuss with you ways to reduce levels of staff smoking.

8. Street Pride began in 2006 • It is a project to build community pride and ownership by improving the local environment and making Fenland an even cleaner, safer and greener place to live, work and visit. • A project that gives communities control over how their towns and villages look.

9. Recycling (FDC) • Michele Spratt is available to take questions regarding commercial recycling and can also offer advice on how to recycle different materials

10. Fenland Scrapstore is a not-for-profit Social Enterprise that aims to cut the waste costs of local businesses and lessen the impact of commercial and domestic waste on the environment. Our aim is to ensure less waste goes to landfill and enable businesses to support their local communities through turning their waste into reusable creative, arts, DIY and household materials. 

11. Planning Advice (FDC) • If you would like to make changes for your business to become more sustainable which also involve changes to your premises Kathryn Brand is available to offer advice on planning permission and development.

12. ‘Tidy Fenland’ is the latest initiative in a wider “It’s your Fenland, be proud of it” campaign that aims to engage communities in helping to improve the district’s environment. • The project aims to work with residents and businesses to curb the minority of people who dump rubbish like takeaway food cartons, sweet wrappers and cigarette butts on the streets or in parks.

13. Health and Safety (FDC) • Debra Bodger is a Senior Environmental Health Officer. She is able to offer guidance and advice on health and safety best practice in the workplace.

14. The EASIER (Environmental Advice for SMEs in the Eastern Region) project provides free support for Small Medium Enterprises (SMEs) to reduce your carbon output, and become more energy-efficient and competitive as a result. • Through the EASIER project, the aim is to achieve a minimum 10% reduction in your organisation’s carbon footprint. 

15. The Fens Adventurers Rural Development Programme (FARDP) has £1.8 million in grants from the European Union and the UK Government. The aim of the programme is to support the start-up or growth of rural businesses in parts of the Cambridgeshire and West Norfolk Fens.

Enterprise agency NWES specialises in helping people turn their business idea into a reality, by offering fully funded professional advice, an excellent start-up business training programme, and a loan fund specifically for anyone who has been refused business credit from a bank. We also offer training workshops in how to build your self confidence, CV writing and interview skills, plus a range of low cost courses for existing business owners. • NWES are now also able to offer support on reducing carbon emissions

Our role is to facilitate discussions between different organisations and to identify opportunities where materials that are not being fully utilised by one company, could be used by another, either in the same condition or reprocessed for a different use. This could involve a waste material becoming a resource for another company or be related to physical assets/facilities, human resources, expertise, logistics, energy, water, capacity…. basically, it is about creating value to any wasted or under-utilised resource.
