Join us for a 3.5-hour tour exploring Mi’kmaq culture through basket making and a heritage path walk. Smudge in a teepee, learn about plants' medicinal properties, weave your basket, and ask questions in a safe environment. Finish off with shopping at our gift shop. Reservations required.

  2. Mi’kmaq • Basket • Making • & • Heritage • Path Tour • 3.5 Hours • Tues & Thurs 1pm-4:30pm • May 1 – Oct 31st • Minimum 2ppl • Max 15ppl • All other requested dates and times by reservation only and based on availability.

  3. (12:45-1)(15min) Guests Are Greeted (1pm-1:10pm)(10min) Introduction to Elsipogtog Mi’kmaq Cultural Center & Mi’kmaq Basket Making & Heritage Path Tour Experience

  4. (1:10pm-1:30pm)(20min)Smudging Inside Community Teepee • Team member will explain what smudging is and why we smudge and about the importance of the 4 medicines used to smudge. • Everyone told that we will go around with smudge bowl and they can choose to smudge or not and that there is no right or wrong way to smudge as long as your intentions are good and then - Guests can ask questions about smudging

  5. (1:30-2pm)(30min) Walk Along Heritage Path With Elder & Learn About the Medicinal Properties of Different Plants, Berries and Trees • Team member walks with guest along heritage path and talks about the various plants, trees, and bushes and their medicinal qualities and how they have been used traditionally • Guests also are shown the Black Ash tree that is used traditionally for basket making and that is being used for their baskets

  6. (2pm-2:15pm)(15min) Traditional Bread, Spreads & Beverage Served While Watching Joe John Video • 2:15pm-3:45pm (1.5 hrs) Basket Making • Team member help guests learn how to weave their very own baskets from their black ash strip kits with the guidance of team member.

(3:45-4:10pm)(25min) Question & Answer - Team members let guests know that this is a safe place to ask their questions and that our goal is to clear up myths with truths about our culture and for people to leave with a deeper understanding of who we are as people and as a community • (4:10-4:30pm)(20min) Gift Shop & Guest Book • Team member help guests with questions about baskets they may be purchasing or to answer any further questions they may have.
