  5. History of IGPN region • different experiencies with democracy • after Second World War – government of Communist Party • from the beginning of 90th – development of free market economies, legal framework, EU membership • real democratic principles and values are still missing the solid base (women‘s rights as fundamental part of democratization) Introduction of IGPN

  6. Global perspective of the latest development in the region • positive • no need for further support was identified • new member states of EU = new donnors Introduction of IGPN

  7. Facts and perspective of the latest development in the region • the region is very unstable, further development of politics there is very unclear (it is even more intensive with the financial crisis) • comming years will examine the democracy and legal framework in IGPN countries • the life of women - under new conditions (examples: competitive market, reconciliation)and their opportunities are not equal at all (examples: gender pay gap, women‘s participation at public life) Introduction of IGPN

  8. Women‘s rights movement in the region •there are WR organizations in IGPN region with long tradition, great expertise, eager to cooperate (my colleagues from IGPN member organizations are here to give you many concrete examples) • bad conditions of WR movement development: there is hardly any support from national governments, from other donors perspective the region is not considered „trendy“ and WR organizations from other regions do not know much about the region because it is not included in global discussions Introduction of IGPN

  9. Our plan to „knock Don Quichotte‘s windmills down“ Main principles: • Cooperation and partnership • Calling for accountability • Expertize sharing (there is not only the expertize of „old EU members“ but also in developing countries and IGPN region) Introduction of IGPN
