    Checking Authority &Introductory Signals

  78. AC = Authority Check Ensure that the cited source supports the proposition stated in the text. Think about what the source says and what the author has written. Do they match up? How closely do they match up? Does the reader make an inferential step, need to compare two sources, etc.?
