  2. Colonialism • Rule by an autonomous power over a subordinate and alien people and place. Although often established and maintained through political structures, colonialism also creates unequal cultural and economic relations.

  3. Imperialism vs. Colonialism • Some people use interchangeably • Theory vs. Practice • Colonialism physically taking land. • Imperialism mentally influencing ideas. • Imperialism and Imperial are the powers that are the “doers” and Colonialism and Colonies are the receivers.
