Submillimeter Array (SMA) Group Project Guide you through SMA observation from the beginning! Chin-Fei Lee Yu-Nung Su, Satoko Takahashi, Ya-Wen Tang Summer 2009
SMA a radio interferometry located at ~4000m in Hawaii, with eight 6-m antennae. operates at 230--690 GHz (1.3--0.45mm) ==> observe submillimeter emission from warm, dense gas and dust baselines as long as 509 m ==> high resolutions of up to 0.1” ( ~ /D) the Solar system, star and planet forming regions, evolved stars, and galaxies at nearby and cosmological distances.
Project The project has 6 parts, with 1-2 leaders for each part of the project: Planning the observation/Generate observing script (1-2 slides, the procedure, feasibility) (Next week!) Running Observation and Data Collection (Observation summary, weather, opacity stuff). Night time observing during the end of July or early August (1-2 slides) Data reduction (who is already working on a SMA project) (1-2 slides) (After the observation) Results and Data Analysis (1-2 slides) Discussion (1-2 slides) Presentation and writing report (all the slides+conclusions)
HH 211: a youngest protostellar system 3 Lsun protostar at 03:43:56, 32:00:50 at 280 pc Goal: Searching for collapsing pseudo-disk at 1000 AU scale Setups: (i) 12CO 2-1, 13CO, C18O lines (ii) HCO+ 3-2 and HCN 3-2 lines (better ?)
B335: a collapsing protostellar system? C18O 2-1 3” 1.5 Lsun protostar at 19:37:00.89, +7:34:10.00 at 150pc Goal: To check the rotation in the the envelope? Setup: 12CO 2-1, 13CO, C18O, and N2D+ lines
