Mobile Device Charger Proposal Mike, Nicole, and Nick
Objective To come up with a device that uses two alternate sources of energy to charge a mobile device
Needs and requirements • To develop a solution that would be useful in many situations where a standard wall charger would not be available. (Ex. desert, out at sea) • Combine two different sources of alternative energy • Portable (small/light weight) • Easy to use and safe • Durable in extreme environments
IDEA #1“Shoe Charger” • Utilizes Kinetic and Thermal energy • Kinetic energy • From movement inside sole • Thermal Energy • change of body temperature via the feet
IDEA #1“Shoe Charger” • Estimated Weight: 1 pound • Easy to use. “as easy as putting on a shoe.” • Affordable • save you money in the long run Disadvantages • Restricted to using only that shoe • Selection may be limited
IDEA #2“Windmill solar charger” • Utilizes wind energy and solar energy • Wind energy taken from the wind • Solar energy taken from sun
IDEA #2“Windmill solar charger” • Estimated weight: 2 pounds • Easy to set up and safe to use • Affordable price • Recycled materials Disadvantages • May end up not sunny and windy at the same time • Can only be used outside • Not easily transported
FINAL PROPOSAL“Solar Crank charger” • Utilizes Solar energy and Mechanical energy • Solar energy taken from sunlight • Mechanical energy taken from when user turns the hand of the crank
FINAL PROPOSAL“Solar Crank charger” • Device is easy to use and could be folded up and taken anywhere with ease • Hand crank enables the charger to be used indoors as well as out doors
FINAL PROPOSAL“Solar Crank charger”Size and Weight • 29in x 9in (unfolded) • 5in x 9in x 1.25in (folded) • 1 pound
Solar Panel • Solar Power Output: 4 watt ( 5 V @ 800 mA) • Charging time: 1 to 2 hours
Hand Crank • Maximum output voltage: DC 6V • Maximum output current: 300 mA • Battery charging time: 1 minute translates into 3-5 minutes of talking time
FINAL PROPOSAL“Solar Crank charger” • Main components are not too expensive and are easily available • makes the device available at an affordable price • About $100 • Solar Panel • Sells for around $100 • Crank • Sells for as low as $5
