  2. Ancient Law • A lot of the mayan laws were written through pottery. • They were written through symbols or signs to decode a message. • One of the major laws were not to commit murder or adultry • The punishment for murder was death

  3. Scientific backround • Mayans believed in two types of calenders • Round calenders • Long calenders Every 52 years was counted as a one interval They were grouped by days and cycles each was 144,000 days

  4. Scientific Background • The long calendar deals with 2012 • Calender is based around the sun, moon, and venus • The cycle ends December 21,2012 • They believed that the eartyh would illuminate itself and the human race in harmony with animals including sea creatures that will unify as a unit.

  5. Mayan Civilization • The ruler is believed top be descendants of the twins. • Class System • Ruler • Nobles • Merchants • Slaves They focused on time

  6. Gods • Gods were very important to men • This would help the men connect to another realm • Very strict • First offense… severely hurt • Second offense…executed • The common men were punished less severe • Punishments were depended on medical • Ederly were exempt on these punishments.

  7. Violence • Sculptures represent a capture • They were sculpted discombobulated and out of shape from the actual human body • They had wood nailed to his back so they were abled to be burned

Mayan Religion • They are polytheistic (polytheism) • They were all part of the cosmos • Earth • Heaven • Underworld • Maize was a big p[art of their religion • Sky had 13 layers • 2 million followers follwed these ways • A lot of the people went to the underworld • Human sacrifice. There hearts would be taken out • Religon and science were one in the same
