Ten years on, what has person centred planning got to offer in a climate of change? Conference 30th November 2006
Person centred planning conference The event held at Trinity Community Initiatives on the Knockmore Road in Lisburn was attended by over 100 senior managers and staff from all 4 Trusts in the EHSSB and staff from the SHSSB and Positive Futures. The title “Ten years on, what has person centred planning got to offer in a climate of change?” made reference to the fact that this way of working has been firmly established within Northern Ireland for over ten years. The conference was an opportunity to reflect on the impact of this approach and to review the contribution it has to make to good quality care as we move to new structures and organisations. The conference was funded by the EHSSB and was opened by Hugh Connor Director of Social Services. Person centred planning conference 30/11/06

Good paper versus bad paper… In a culture in which good paper takes precedence over a good life - The mission/vision is about helping people get good lives BUT Efforts to get good lives are not noticed WHILE The behavior of senior managers tells front line managers that good paper is rewarded and bad paper is punished AND The people who use the services often have good plans but lives where what is really important to them is absent Person centred planning conference 30/11/06
Feedback re Good 2 Great: • Positive Futures added their experience of applying Good 2 Great in their organisation and their hopes for the future development of this approach. • “To create a culture in the work environment and the need for leadership involvement got me really enthused about Positive and Productive Meetings. Person centred planning conference 30/11/06
Ideas for steps forward: • Person centred thinking within professional forums • Person centred thinking mission statements • All managers trained in person centred thinking • Equality standards – mission statement within the department • Training inclusive for all staff groups • Develop person centred meetings with the people we work with • Support group for practitioners • Working with partners in using these skills • Support for champions • PC Thinking in induction for all staff • Team meetings using 4 + 1 Questions • Steering group – take lead in moving organisation forward Person centred planning conference 30/11/06
