Importance • Globalizing education opens up a gateway to the world for modern-day students. • It allows students to become more aware of the world around them, gaining new perspective and understanding on how other cultures compare and contrast to their own. • The rise of globalization is making children future “global citizens” - intelligent people with a broad range of skills and knowledge to apply to a competitive, information based society.

How it Applies to 21st Century • The effects of globalization on education bring rapid developments in technology. • Communications are foreseeing changes within learning systems across the world as ideas, values and knowledge. • This changes the roles of students and teachers, and it re-emphasizes the shift in society from industrialization towards an information-based society.

  5. Application Examples Gigapan: • Pictures can show students what foreign cities and countries look like. • Snapshots can answer questions about the unknown facts. • Comments to these snapshots allow students to connect with people around the globe.

Application Examples Facebook/Twitter: • The ability to connect with people around the globe makes Facebook and Twitter a prime example of globalization. • Twitter trending topics inform people of news headlines from around the globe. • Facebook allows users to talk to people wherever they are, even across the globe.

  7. Role in Technology • Technological advancements are delivering and increasing access to the world and subsequently subjects should reflect this global outlook. • Technology makes globalization easier because provides many way to connect the world.
