Inter-group Comparison • The sample included 129 perpetrators of crime • 69/129 were African American • 40/129 were Caucasian • Latinos were in between 40--69 ???
Inter-role Comparison • Police officers: perpetrators • African Americans 18:69 • White 93:40
Inter-reality Comparison • Actual crime statistics • Blacks accounted for 21% of criminal arrests in L.A. • Whites accounted for 28% of criminal arrests • Latinos accounted for 47% of criminal arrests (only 29% of perpetrators on TV news were Latino)
In Conclusion • Blacks over-represented as criminals on news • Latinos under-represented as criminals • Nothing can be shown about the effects of over- or under-representation
