Greek holiday The most interesting holiday which we have ever spent together was in Greece.
We booked a room in cheap hotel which owner is Bogica’s uncle. First we had to check the weather forecast, and it showed the weather would be nice except some day. The second step was we had to check what are dos and don’ts. The adventures began at the packing. We planned a long holiday for two weeks, so we are girls we started packing one month before our journey.
We wanted to go by airplane, so we had to limit our pack. We could take only 20-25 kilos of pack with us. Everybody knows, this is a very hard exercise for a woman. That’s why we decided to pack for each other, so we wouldn’t cry for the sorted out clothes. We chose the easiest way to do the pack we took dresses, bikinis, slippers and the necessary things for washing with us. The biggest thing was the suitcases on this easier way was overweight too, so we couldn’t take our suitcases with us to the board, and that’s why we got our packs after the landing. They checked our passports, and we got the boarding passes at the checking desk. We had to go through the custom. We had to wait in a departure lounge where we could find newsagent’s, restaurants and a lot of duty free shops. We said goodbye for our parents, who gave us good advice and a little money. About half on our before the flight we boarded the plane, and it flew at the correct time and said goodbye to our little country.
We sat on window seats. We didn’t sleep during the journey, because this was our first flight. We saw a lot of clouds, but sometimes we could see the green landscape. First, both of us were afraid, but after a few minutes, we calmed down and we enjoyed the journey, which lasted two hours.
After the landing, Bogica’s uncle waited us in a departure lounge. We greeted each other, but after that we thought our suitcases lost, but fortunately we found them. Then our real vacation began. We went from the airport by car, and when we left the view which was in front of our eyes was amazing. A typical Greek landscape with blue sea and blue-white colours (they are the colours of the Greek flag). The first Greek city, which we discovered was Santorini, because our hotel was here too. Santorini is a little island, which shaped because of a volcanic. It spears 2 hundred kilometres from Athens. All of the buildings are blue and white. It is one of the Seven Miracles of the World.
Our accommodation was in a blue-white hotel too, which owner is Bogica’s uncle. There were the same colours inside of the house, which was big and homely. The most wonderful thing was our room looking out on a sea, so we could wonder the sunset every night. We couldn’t understand the Greek language, but sometimes we could explain them what we want with the help of our little Greek dictionary, because people there were very understanding and tolerant.
We often went to the seaside for a walk so we found a sandy beach among a lot of rocky seaside at the first day. We always went for this beach after that, because the nearest beaches were very crowded and dirty. The sea was clean there and we could dive a lot, so we found a lot of kinds of shells. We were having fun in the water, so we made the jellyfish nervous, because there were a lot of there. Otherwise we were very calm, we sunbathed a lot, bought doughnut from the sellers on the beach and we went to every bazaar.
The nights were very good too. After the substantial dinner, we often went to walk to discover the city. The feeling was indescribable. The Greek streets were crowded, but it wasn’t matter. We felt the Greek style too, because there are lots of-lots of souvenir shops, where you could buy typical Greek things and small presents. The music was from the shops. There were Greek music in every shop.
We called our parents every day and told them everything. The most interesting was travelling to other sights and famous cities. We went to the most famous places in Greece.
We were at the Meteora’s a first. They were monasteries which were built on the top of huge rock. Monks and nuns lived in these monasteries, but some of them were uninhabited. We had to cover our shoulders and knees and we had to wear long skirt, otherwise we couldn’t go to the convents. We saw none of the monks, but there were a lot of nuns in their own monastery.
Monks lived in the biggest monastery. This was the most beautiful. The garden of it was huge and there were lots of flowers. We saw a museum of the ancient life and a pantry with a full of craniums. It was a little bit scary. We wondered that the monks lived at small holes in the rocks. We thought it was very uncomfortable. We could go by car to this place and we had to go on a serpentine road.
After this fantastic experience we went to the capital of Greece, to Athens. It was a capital in the ancient Greek too. The first Olympic Games were there. We saw the famous building of the Acropolis and the Dionysos theatre under it. We went with a Hungarian group and a group leader. After seeing these sights we saw the city, bought souvenirs and we were having lunch at a traditional Greek restaurant.
The last place where we were was a small ancient town on the top of a small hill. It called PaleoPanteleimonas. Actually it was a village museum, but people lived there. The ancient feeling of this village was lovely and friendly. All of the shops and restaurants were small and homely toot. There were geraniums in every window.
These two weeks ran away very quickly. The last day was perfect. We swam in the sea, walked and we sat on a rock and saw the sunset and both of us thought this was our best holiday together.
