  1. Recommendations of workshop 1 • fields of study: • combination of bottom up and top down decision • bottom up: • survey initiated by the UNICA BL • collection of fields of study that each UNICA institution can offer (submitted before the next General Assembly in October) • top down: • report results of survey to rectors • decision on UNICA’s policy/mission • set up a task force

  2. 2.) structures and duration: • no way of imposing rigid structures • maintenance of flexibility as regards agreements between partners • but: • recommendation: duration of M.A.: 2 years (not 1 year)

  3. institutional development/quality assurance and control: • generally positive attitudes towards internationalisation strategies but lack of concrete definitions of these strategies • careful preparation • clear definition of prerequisites and of learning outcomes • evaluation after the programme (e.g. students) • notion of trust between UNICA universities

  4. new vs. old curricula • terms “irrelevant”: interaction with other institutions automatically implies a change of “old” curricula (dynamic process) • workload is always there • high relevance of interdisciplinary programmes • aspect of language learning: • ways of acquiring linguistic competence have to be considered individually before and during the master • if acquiring a language is obligatory, students have to be credited for attending language courses • an optional part of the credits should be reserved to the acquisition of foreign languages

  5. doctoral level: • different experiences • emphasis of importance of doctoral level • UNICA’s priority on M.A. level (step-by-step policy)

  6. Additional recommendation: • Set up a task force: “project management” • Including academics, administrators • tool for the development of developing joint curricula • set of questions and answers (including issues of the EUA report, Chantal Zoller’s criteria, etc) • defining time frames • setting up teams • defining priorities
