MidSTAR II Mission Statement • Support primary STP mission for two years; support additional USNA and NASA experiments for two years; demonstrate additional space operation capability such as attitude control, redundant power systems, or light sensing.
MidSTAR II Success criteria • 100% success requires: • -Support of primary and secondary science payloads for two years • -Repeated, successful demonstration in space of advanced operation capability • -Direct communication with MidSTAR-1 if program is still operational at time of MidSTAR-2 launch
MidSTAR II Success criteria • 50% Success criteria: • -Support of primary and secondary science payloads for two years • -Single successful demonstration of advanced operation capability • 25% Success criteria: • -Support of primary payload for sufficient length of time to gather significant reducible data for payload owner
Mission Requirements • MidSTAR-2 Program Requirements flow from The MidSTAR Program Mission Statement and merge with the MidSTAR Program Design Decisions to produce the MidSTAR-2 Mission Requirements. These in turn, merge with the MidSTAR-2 Mission Design Decisions to produce the Spacecraft Subsystem Requirements. • Primary mission requirements are: • MidSTAR-2 mod 1 must obey the physical, electrical and environmental constraints of the ESPA ring; MidSTAR-2 mod 2 must obey the physical, electrical and environmental constraints of the CAPE system; • Three-axis stabilization available for missions requesting it; • Solar energy collection maximized, battery depth-of-discharge (DOD) consistent with two-year mission life; • PC-based Command & Data Handling (C&DH) System with open source software; • Uplink and downlink frequencies in military spectrum (Uplink: 1.767 GHz, downlink 2.20226 GHz); • 68.4 kbps or better GMSK; • Communications data rates maximized; • Active thermal control where required; • Attitude control system; • MidSTAR-2 will be able to communicate with MidSTAR-1.
