  1. What is a Lexile Measure? A “Lexile measure” is a number that represents either an individual's reading level or the level of difficulty of a text, book, or magazine article. Each Lexile number has an approximate grade level equivalent for it. (Ex: 1000L = approx. 8th grade reading level)

  2. Lexiles for Text • The Lexile measure is shown as a number with an "L" after it: 620L is a Lexile of 620. • Lexiles are placed in a range of 4 levels in the Read 180 Program: • Level 1: 200-450L • Level 2: 400-700L • Level 3: 600-900L • Level 4: 800-1200L

  3. Lexiles for Readers • After taking the SRI, students receive an individual Lexile number based on their performance on it. • Students should then select books no more than 50 Lexile points above or 100 below your level. • Students will make rapid progress by reading and using software adjusted to the appropriate Lexile level.

  4. Remember… • Don’t judge a book by its cover! Many variables determine a book’s Lexile level including: • The text’s difficulty and vocabulary in it • Sentence structure • Text format Most importantly, be sure to ENJOY what you’re reading!
