  2. Habitat • Crocodiles live in tropical parts of North , Central, and South America. • Crocodiles live in rivers , lakes , rumps , and wetlands. One species lives in saltwater. • It blends in with the grass.

  3. Appearance • The crocodile is brown , black , gray , or green. • Adult crocodiles are 4 to 23 feet. • They have webbed feet and a narrow snout. • A male is called a bull. • A female is called a cow.

  4. Young • A baby is called a hatchling. • The crocodile has 25 to 90 babies. • The babies are born in 3 months. • The crocodile puts the babies in her mouth to protect them.

  5. Food • Crocodiles eat fish , frogs , birds , and mammals. • They rip it apart or swallow it whole. • Most crocodiles eat once a week. • They eat less in winter because they hibernate.

  6. Danger, Danger • Crocodiles enemies are birds and mongooses. • It protects itself with a powerful bite.

  7. Communication and Relatives • It communicates with other animals and people by rashing it’s teeth. • It communicates with relatives by sound , scents , and body language. • Its relative is a aligator.

  8. Interesting Facts • The crocodiles eyes and nose are on the top of its head so it can breath. • Crocodiles have the strongest bite of any animal. • This animal would not make a good pet because of its powerful bite.
